Current Projects

As a member of Yorkshire Baroque Soloists, Bethany has performed many concert programmes with various instrumentalists. Over the past few years Bethany has developed strong collaborations with Niels Tilma on trumpet and Ian Hoggart on recorder.

Niels Tilma was educated at the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus, Denmark and at Guildhall School of Music, London. As a trumpet player he has played with symphony orchestras and ensembles across Scandinavia. When he studied at Guildhall he began to play baroque trumpet and has since played with many ensembles including Yorkshire Baroque Soloists, Concerto Copenhagen, Swedish Baroque Orchestra, Amsterdam Baroque and Ensemble Zimmermann. Bethany and Niels began performing together in 2007 and since then have worked on several programmes, visiting the famous neo-baroque organs in Denmark and working alongside Peter Seymour.

Ian Hoggart is based at the University of York, where he is currently studying for a PhD funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council under the supervision of Peter Seymour. His PhD topic concerns the rise and fall of the recorder concerto in the early eighteenth century. He plays recorder and bassoon, both in ensembles and as a soloist. His most recent performances with ensembles include Monteverdi’s Vespers with the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists; and as a soloist, include Telemann’s concerto for recorder and flute at the National Centre for Early Music, and Vivaldi’s C Minor recorder concerto. He teaches the recorder at St Peter’s School, Ampleforth College and York St John University, and he is the Assistant Director of the Minster Minstrels, an early music ensemble for children ages 11-18.
